Parkhurst Dining’s Commitment to Animal Welfare

Parkhurst Dining cares deeply about animal welfare. We are committed to the humane treatment of animals and ensuring the highest standards of welfare throughout our supply chain. Our philosophy at Parkhurst is simple - prioritizing the health and welfare of farm animals leads to higher quality, safer, and more nutritious food for our guests, while providing farm workers a safer working environment.

Poultry

We prioritize sourcing poultry that is raised and processed according to standards set by the National Chicken Council’s Broiler Welfare Guidelines. We also continue to follow our Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) roadmap for broiler chicken. As we work towards achieving compliance with the BCC, we continue to collaborate with our supply chain partners to understand many complex factors, including increased costs and availability concerns that come with breed choice, controlled atmosphere stunning, and stocking density.

 

Cage-Free Shell Eggs

We prioritize sourcing cage-free shell eggs and continue to increase our amount annually. By sourcing cage-free eggs, we are supporting better living conditions for hens and promoting practices that align with our values of compassion and responsibility.

 

Halal Chicken

Parkhurst Dining is dedicated to providing products that meet the diverse needs and preferences of our customers. As part of this commitment, we are proud to offer a range of halal-certified chicken products.

We understand the importance of offering halal options to our clients and guests and are committed to upholding the integrity of halal certification in all stages of production.

Pork

We have been proactive in working with our pork farmers and producers to eliminate gestation crates in the sow farms where our supply is sourced. Our primary pork provider has almost entirely transitioned to gestation-crate-free production. They utilize a process commonly referred to as “open pen gestation”, where a sow in gestation is housed in an open pen where she has freedom of movement, social interaction, access to sufficient feed and water, and free from fear and distress.

Plant Based Food

Parkhurst Dining is committed to offering a robust variety of plant-based proteins to our guests every day.

We recognize the importance of offering diverse and sustainable food choices to our customers. As part of our commitment to health, environmental stewardship, and culinary innovation, we pledge to ensure that 21-25% of our menu options are plant-based.

Plant-based foods offer numerous benefits, including lower environmental impact, improved health outcomes, and support for animal welfare. By increasing the percentage of plant-based options on our menu, we aim to provide our customers with delicious and nutritious alternatives that align with their values and dietary preferences.

RBST-Free Fluid Milk

Since 2007, we have been committed to using only RBST-free fluid milk. Parkhurst Dining sets clear requirements for our regional dairy suppliers, ensuring they do not use RBST or any synthetic hormones in their dairy operations. This commitment contributes to the promotion of ethical and responsible dairy production practices.
