Duquesne University selects Parkhurst Dining as new food service provider
University Business Magazine

Duquesne's campus will have fresh dining options thanks to a new partnership with Parkhurst Dining, which will provide the University's food service management beginning August 7.  Duquesne selected Parkhurst based on its award-winning food service management and commitment to high quality as well as its fresh, local, made-from-scratch approach to dining services.

"Parkhurst is a culinary-focused food service management provider that values quality, personalized guest services, professional catering experience and, just as important, an organization that makes a difference in the community," said Dave DiPetro, Duquesne University executive director of auxiliary services.

Parkhurst's experience with providing fresh, made-to-order food sourced locally, including Penn's Corner Alliance, helps to support more than 200 of the finest local growers, family-owned farms and producers of food within a 125-mile radius of its service areas. This greatly reduces the distance that food travels from harvest to table.

"Health and wellness are key aspects to Duquesne's dining program," said Parkhurst Vice President of Higher Education Dining Bill Albright. "Through FarmSource, Parkhurst's sustainable sourcing program, we are able to offer fresh and healthier products that complement well-balanced, nutritional dining that encourages our guests to gather, while sharing a great meal."

International foods will also be a focal point of dining services through which students will learn about the world around them from Parkhurst culinary teams in action. Parkhurst chefs prepare foods to-order in front of guests using authentic ingredients and food preparation techniques. In addition, they provide a culinary education as they describe the ingredients and local agriculture used to prepare the selections. Chefs will also make recommendations when diners ask for complimentary flavors.

"We are excited to provide Duquesne University students, faculty and guests with a variety of healthy options prepared by our creative culinary teams from scratch, including soups made from stock, fresh-dough pizza and burgers that are fresh, never frozen," said Albright.

Parkhurst special events managers and chefs will also enhance Duquesne University's catering program, working hand-in-hand with clients creating a menu, décor and customized guest services unique to each event. Parkhurst's reputation as one of the most requested caterers throughout Pittsburgh will rejuvenate catering with flexible options and innovative menu offerings to accommodate small or large meetings and special events such as weddings, parties and other memorable moments.

With everything from comfort foods, culturally diverse selections, to on the go!, diners will experience a variety of healthier, innovative and progressive dining and catering options that better meets the needs of Duquesne University's campus community.
