In recognition of Pride Month, we are reflecting on our commitment to creating a people-first, inclusive culture, not just during the month of June, but year-round. Belonging isn’t one-size-fits-all, it’s a shared value that shows up in both structured programs and everyday moments. From inclusion groups and ongoing initiatives to meaningful programming and localized site-level celebrations, Parkhurst fosters a workplace and community culture of inclusion and belonging.
Inclusion Groups and our Corporate Support Center
Inclusion Groups are peer-led, self-directed, voluntary groups that offer opportunities to network internally, promote a diverse team member base, provide the inclusion of ideas and solutions, and create opportunities for mentoring and career development.
PRIDEful Professionals, a LGBTQIA+ inclusion group anchored by our Corporate Support Center (CSC), was established to create a welcoming environment for team members and allies. PRIDEful Professionals is dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace where LGBTQIA+ team members and allies feel valued, respected, and celebrated. This group of volunteers promotes connection, professional development, and the sharing of diverse ideas across the organization.
Additional inclusion groups at the Corporate Support Center include Abilities Alliance, Honor & Ally Network, Women’s Inclusion Group (WING), and Working Caregivers. Such groups create a feeling of acceptance for our team members and guests, fostering a broader ecosystem of inclusion across our sites throughout the entire year.
Culture of Inclusion Across Our Sites
Across our dining locations, Parkhurst’s commitment to inclusion comes to life in different, meaningful ways as each site celebrates Pride in a way that reflects its unique community.
At Parkhurst, we empower each individual site to celebrate Pride Month in a way that is authentic to them – through programming, events, menu features, and engagement that connect with their guests and team members.
One site-level Pride Activation we are proud to highlight is the partnership between Otterbein University and FreeZone, a local organization supporting LGBTQIA+ youth. Together, Otterbein and FreeZone hosted a Pride-centered lunch activation designed to engage guests while creating a space that feels welcoming and inclusive for all.
“FreeZone is at the forefront when it comes to supporting an inclusive environment on the Otterbein campus,” explained Jimmy Oldham, Director of Board Operations and DE&I Council Communications Chair for Parkhurst Dining at Otterbein University. “We strive to create a table where team members and guests feel a sense of belonging. Where all perspectives and beliefs are welcomed, included and respected…Their goals align with our company’s goals. By promoting their mission and their group, we’re highlighting our commitment to inclusion and a sense of belonging within the Otterbein community!”
Through meaningful events and partnerships like this, the Otterbein team and FreeZone demonstrate how Pride Month can be brought to life in a tangible, community-centered way, creating opportunities for conversation, engagement, and acceptance.
Ongoing Commitment to Inclusion and Belonging
Through our inclusion groups like PRIDEful Professionals and site-level partnerships with local organizations like FreeZone, Parkhurst creates spaces where both team and community members feel supported, valued, and connected.
This illustrates a culture of inclusion that is intentional, active, and people-first. Pride month becomes more than just a moment, but an ongoing commitment to inclusion and belonging. At Parkhurst, we are committed to creating inclusive dining environments and workplaces across our organization year-round.
